Virtual Canada is out!
Virtual Canada was released today without much fanfare.
In fact, when I go in the world, it looks like I'm the only one using it. heh.
That may have something to do with it being so hard to create a new account, I'll see if I can contact the company to see if they can fix that.
If you would like to try it out, go here and create an account.
www.interactivenetwork.ca/expo/register.php?lang_id=1&header=off
They'll ask you for a boat load of information. Enter it in if you feel like it, the email is needed though as they will send you a serial number.
Go here to download the software.
www.interactivenetwork.ca/expo/download.php?lang_id=1&header=off
It's a 330MB download (Which trust me, is a lot better then it used to be). Once you wake up from your nap, copy the serial number to the clipboard. Launch the game. Paste the serial number in, enter your email address, and password.
The avatar builder will pop-up. Choose your avatar wisely because you can't change it. Well, that's not entirly true. You can delete a .dso somewhere and it will reset it so that the next time you launch you can recreate your character, but I can't remember what file that is.
After that you're in. Pick a city and start walking. You can click on the white squares with the 6 icons on them (The mouse cursor doesn't change and it might take a couple clicks but it eventually works).
It's supposed to be a MMO game, so in theory you should be able to see other people (Although I haven't seen anyone - probably because it's so hard to install).
As for what I did... I placed all the buildings in Niagara falls. Modelled a few buildings here and there. And anything that animates, I got it animating (I didn't nessessarly do the animation in max). Regina has the snowbirds, I used the pathed object resource on here for that and we used excel to duplicate the path 8 times. Toronto has the TTC, but don't let it run you over. What else might be of interest... uh, check out the Ontario Science Centre in Toronto there is some Mocap in there.
The interiors of the galleries (Any building with a coloured flag over it) were done in 3dsmax, they are not dif files which is how we got them looking good.
Anyways, that's enough jabbering on.
