Blog post
My friend, and fellow GG Torque dev, Master Corporal Allan Stewart, aka Dr. Evil ~ TAG, was killed in combat yesterday in Afghanistan, along with one of his buddies. They were in their Coyote AFV about 45 km west of Kandahar, racing to the rescue of another Coyote crew, when they were hit by an IED. This was his third time in Afghanistan, this time having arrived in-country only last week. Two other crew members were injured by the roadside bomb.

More here.

He was my friend, and I will miss him.

That's horrible. I'm sorry for you Ken. You and everyone who loved your friend.

I'm really sorry to hear that Ken. Being ex-military, I know several people serving there at any given time and I think about them often. The Canadian Armed Forces is a small community and every loss hits close to home.

Thanks for the heads up Ken. I wish to send you and the rest of his loved ones my blessings. Flowers die, but the beauty they've instilled in our hearts lives on forever. Remember the good times, my friend.

As a son of a military officer, i send my sympathies to all the families involved. Being a soldier brings many unique and painful responsiblilities, this is the most painful and most respected duty a soldier can have. To die in service of ones country. Stay safe.

My condolences to you and his loved ones, Ken. This pains me greatly to see a fellow developer, and countryman, lost during battle. I'm honored to be a part of the same communities as Allan. . .

Wow, that sucks. I used to do youth work and became a sort of adopted to big brother/father figure to a lot of them. Some of "My kids" are now adults and over there fighting. I always worry I'll get some heartbreaking news like this. My condolences to the families and to you Ken.

Our deepest condolences Ken. Master Corporal Allan Stewart will be missed. Our prayers are with his family. Maybe we should arrange for a TIG in Dr. Evil ~ TAG's memory? Showcase some of his work?

Sad loss, condolences. The bad guys that did it.. I hope the last thing they hear is a Canadian F18 dropping a bomb on there arse.

:(

No matter who you are, war will hit home eventually. As a Canadian and a Torquer myself, this really does cut close, even if I didn't know him personally as you did. In the immortal words of Winston Churchill:

"Courage is rightly esteemed the first of human qualities... because it is the quality which guarantees all others. "

Rest in Peace young hero.
He was a noble man saving his buddy and for those who believe in god after an event like this - his soul will rest in heaven untill the end of time itself.

My Symphaties, Ken.

Stefan Walker   (Apr 15, 2007 at 02:52 GMT)
Allan Stewart was my best internet friend and my partner involving game mods and a game we were building under TGE called "Rules of Engagement" R.o.E

This was a war game we were working on, Allan Stewart (Dr. Evil) chose the name. He put a lot of work into the Windows side as I was working on the Linux side of the house.

Well, the project won't be completed now, which isn't really a big deal to me. The big deal is the fact Allan had a wife and daughters that won't see him again.

The thing that was typical about Allan's death was the fact he was in-route to help somebody. Allan was helpful to everyone he ran across and everyone who met him liked him. He wasn't disliked by anybody. He would help with coding projects that he didn't even own the game for. He was truly a genuine person and I miss him dearly.

R.I.P. Allan, everyone loved you.

This is a bit of a shock. I had just started corresponding with Allen just before he left on his second trip, and when he came back from it. Having gone to Iraq when the initial invasion began back in '03, we had something in common. I still can't believe it; as soon as I saw the title of this thread, I had a sinking feeling it was him. I think we all feel rather sheltered within the Indy community, and this is a bit sobering to all.

I just re-enlisted myself for another 3 years in the local Guard Unit, hopefully we won't be sent back anytime soon. Leaving this Earth in the manner that Allan did speaks volumes on his true character as a man and a human being, and it is something I hope his wife and kids can be proud of and find consolation in. He will be missed by many. I will be sure to let everyone know about this sad event in our forums as well.

My thoughts go out to his family and friends. Rest in peace brother.
