Just had a notification of this today and thought I would share.

Basically, Microsoft is giving away free copies of:

Visual Studio 2008 Professional
Visual Studio 2005 Professional
SQL Server 2005 Developer
Windows Server 2003 Standard
Expression Studio

And a few other things that have been free in the past, to students in the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, China, Germany, France, Finland, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and Belgium, with more countries being added in the future.

At Devry we have a partnership with MS, so they setup the MSN Alliance site, where we have access to all that and more, pretty much everything MS has to offer except games. I believe if you school doesn't offer it you can request to get it by sending an email to MS, and they in turn will contact you school to find out if they are interested;)

I've noticed that our DeVry MSDN Alliance memberships don't allow access to VS 2008 yet though. I came across dreamspark last night and applied so that I can download it.

**The other really cool offering on the Microsoft Dreamspark site is a 12 month XNA Creator's Club membership for free.
