Wildlife Tycoon: Venture Africa approaching alpha...
First off, Nicole Anguish's design for the company logo... it's a beaut!

It's been a while since I posted anything on Wildlife Tycoon: Venture Africa. Here's my itinerary for the last month:

-Hard drive crash
-Attempt to save data
-Realize data that was saved was old data
-Revert to month old backup of code (luckily our art was all backed up)
-Delay ship date by a month
-Go to wedding in Yosemite (man it was beautiful, the waterfalls are inspiring right now with all the rain we've had)
-Almost get lost at night, almost get swept down a river, almost get eaten by a bear on a hike to Ostrander Lake
-Move to new apartment in San Diego
-Get my ass working again in a new office

Yes, ladies and gents, this is where the magic happens. Well, actually the magic happens in San Fran, and Hawaii, and Boston, and Eugene, and Missouri, but this is where the magic all comes together into one tasty package the whole family can enjoy!

Back to the game... so you may have noticed in the News column on GG that we got mentioned in an article on GameTunnel that got posted on Slashdot. Karma offered a little kickback after that whole hard drive crash thing. Well, GameTunnel got much of the info wrong, but they are good folks, and they try hard, and they deserve a medal or at least a participant ribbon for being so cool.

Anyways, alpha is approaching within two weeks, so I should get back to work, but let me leave you with some thoughts about where we will go next after Venture Africa is done.
-Larger creatures
-Smaller creatures
-On ice
-Under water
-Amphibious!
-Explore the world under AND over the ice

It's gonna be beautiful to see this all come together in TSE! (multiplayer too!)

Looking good, can't wait for beta! ;)

I love the real lions you've got there. Between that and cloning your dog, I think we see where the real inspiration for Wildlife Tycoon came from.

@Unsung- Exactly, maybe we should consider doing ***Wildlife Tycoon: Venture My Friggin Office*** next!

such a bummer about the drive crash. it's a good way to learn at least.

nice picture of your game studio! it looks so similar to mine down to the dog, chair, and TV setup it's almost eerie. maybe we were brothers in another life.

2 weeks to feature complete? dang man, congrats on that and looking forward to it! and congrats to on the slashdot link, I suspect it'll be only the beginning for you. I won't be beta'ing, but I can't wait to play it at IGC...

My tv look pretty similar too though, just more crap under it; Stereo, dvd, xbox... and most important of all, and old NES. =)
The rest... well, maybe not so much. For some reason there's always much more of a mess around me. hehe. Don't ask why, it just sort of magically appears very shortly after I clean things up.

I finally got a new secondary monitor too. Damn it's nice to have two of them again, can't understand how I could have managed to live without it.

In either case, good luck with the game. Looking good.

Cool. I registered.

Andy Schatz   (Jul 13, 2005 at 22:27 GMT)
Great Jeff! I'm excited to start getting some feedback on the game. Anyone registered will be getting details in a month or so regarding the beta.

@Magnus - Yeah I can't work on one monitor anymore. Working on one screen is like driving a Uhaul with no side mirrors.

I'm glad i'm not the only one who has a pile in the corner. My office is the place where my wife's crap goes to die :)

Thanks for warning me about that book. I'll be sure not to buy it.
