GID14: 1-2-3 Robot - A game for toddlers
Download 1-2-3 Robot (757k)

I was visiting family in Wisconsin this weekend but figured I'd participate in the GID anyway. I met my nephew for the first time; he's a smart little 16 month old, so I thought I'd make a computer game for him.

I tried to keep it very simple but with enough variation to keep him interested, and enough functionality to let him learn the cause and effect between his actions and what happens on the screen (or speakers). He seemed to enjoy finally being able to move and click the mouse like the big people.

The robot image is just a placeholder, but he liked it enough. The pitch of the sounds gets higher and lower with the mouse position and the boxes flash when they are clicked. Both mouse buttons are active because he didn't really know the difference between the right and left. The little tune I wrote will probably drive his mommy and daddy insane.

It only took about 4 hours, but I'll probably continue work on it to give it more personality.

Opening the game caused me a full system hard-lockup. Odd.

Yikes, sorry about that. I updated the file to hopefully fix the problem. Thanks
