Minions of Mirth: Dedicated Server
First off updated demo links... You can download a demo of the beta here:

Windows
http://www.prairiegames.com/MoMDemoInstaller.exe

OSX
http://www.prairiegames.com/MoMDemo_OSX.tar.gz

Now onto the coolness:

We've release the dedicated world server + full RPG World Server Source Code + full RPG Database Source Code & Compiler!!!

You can freely download the dedicated server and host a modded full world. However, a beta client is necessary to connect to these worlds. Beta access is available by pre-ordering the game. The release date is December 15th, 2005.

1. Download and install TortoiseSVN from http://www.prairiegames.com/TortoiseSVN-1.2.6.4786-svn-1.2.3.msi

TortoiseSVN is a shell extension that will allow you to update your copy of the dedicated world server and merge your changes with the official build!!!

2. Right click anywhere on your desktop, choose SVN Checkout, and enter the following information:

(The repository is located at http://mom.servegame.com/svn/prairiegames/dws )

3. Navigate to C:\MoMDedicatedWorldServer and double click on WorldManager.exe

Click on the Connect button and you should be prompted for your Public Name and Password. (If you do not have a Public Name/Password yet, You can register with the Demo or Beta. Registering is free)

4. Once you have logged in, click on New World and you will be prompted for some information. Enter a name for your world and change any settings that you choose and then click OK.

5. Click on Launch World and your world should launch! You can now exit the World Manager.

The most common problem with connecting to your new world from the client is improper port forwarding. Please refer to this thread and this thread for more information.

The RPG World Server code is located in the./common/mud/world folder of the installation. This code is the full RPG logic of the world server. The game can be changed DRAMATICALLY by editing these files.

Also, the RPG Database sources are located in the ./common/genesis folder. These can be modified and recompiled with the Genesis.exe program from the ./bin folder. Once you have recompiled the database, you must run WorldUpdate from the bin foler. For example:

WorldUpdate.exe multi MyWorld

This would update the MyWorld world with your database changes.

Alright, this is just the beginning and we are spinning a whole lot of plates right now. This is going to be very cool, though it is going to take some time to document and get some kinks worked out.

Have fun!,

You are releasing the source? Cool. I still think you should wait untill the release is out and then shake it into a resource pack for sale to all the peeps wanting to follow in your footsteps. Of course you may already be one step ahead of me here.

Good look with the upcoming release, I'm sure a lot of us are rooting for you.

Cheers, Mark.

@Mark: This is no where near the full source code. The source code we've made available is the (complete) RPG logic of the World Server. This combined with the full RPG Database source code and compiler allows people to heavily modify the game.
