We've received a lot of inquiries on the Torque Game Builder Web Browser.

We intended the initial release of the TGB Browser to have a full suite of script commands, though it looks like we're going to be too busy to touch it for awhile. So, after a quick cleanup and some installation docs we zipped up a release.

Check it out: http://www.mmoworkshop.com/trac/mom/wiki/TGBBrowser

Enjoy!

Kick ass Josh! Thanks a ton for making this available to the community!

very cool josh.
what do you think of the possibility of rendering HTML w/ transparent background on top of TGE/TGB ?

so text & flash etc etc could appear outside of an opaque rectangle.

one issue with TGE/TGB is that the UI rendering is tied to the game engine framerate,
which is bad when that framerate is say 10Hz or lower.

one thing we did to improve this w/r/t stock TGE controls is to stop using the openGL cursor in favour of the system cursor. this improved the impression of responsiveness hugely.

but when/if we integrate flash/gecko in order to get slicker UI components this issue will come back.
our thought there is to start a master thread which has TGE rendering as fast as it can and ditto Flash,
with the master combining the two layers whenever new input is available.

@Zachary: No problem, it was fun! :)

@Orion: I would think transparency would be possible... hey, could you email me the code for using the system cursor? I would be REALLY grateful... even just some snippets and pointers would be very cool!!! If you can, please email mmoworkshop@prairiegames.com :)

Thank you! This release is the holy grail for a game I've been designing for about 2 years. I've started a thread for people using the resource and additions that they've made.

any success getting it to work on TGE?

Scott Doerrfeld   (Sep 24, 2007 at 17:51 GMT)
What a fantastic resource! Yeah anyone get this working on TGE?

Igor G   (Sep 26, 2007 at 11:51 GMT)
Works wonderfully in TGE 1.5.2

It does work just fine in TGE. One thing I noticed among it's limitations --- HTTPS doesn't seem to be supported (NOTE: It does seem to be supported in uBrowser). Can someone clue me in as to whether there has been any talk about this on the TGB forums? Is it feasible to have HTTPS support with an in-game browser? Would anyone be interested in collaborating on adding this feature? I think it would be incredibly useful from a client login/payment standpoint.
