Torque 2D Musings aka My First .plan

The Story So Far

After messing around with TGE for a while and not really doing much beyond a few simple tutorials, I decided I wanted to try something a little easier. T2D was getting rave reviews from the community and I had just learned that I could snap it up for a measly $80 ( that's about

Freaky. We were just talking about this: www.garagegames.com/index.php?sec=mg&mod=resource&page=view&qid=5547 on IRC. Then I decided to check .plans, and I see this ... haha.

Edit: Other related info ... www.garagegames.com/blogs/22864/6023 and www.garagegames.com/blogs/22864/5945. We canned it since it was too obscure to pick up and play. Maybe its worth tieing up the loose ends and shipping it as a freebie. We had some pretty interesting grid variations that were kinda fun.

Spooky.

Cheers for the links. I hadn't seen any of those before. Just shows you what's hiding out in the depths of the site. :-> Your art kicks the cr@p out of my 10 minute programmer art.

I don't really have any intentions of going much futher with this. It's just something I'm working on to learn a bit about T2D. If I do decide to go any further with it, I would probably end up giving it away as a freebie for anyone interested.

very cool, good progress Martin :)

Martin, "my" art was done by Nauris Krauze, but my original crappy programmer art was just as bad as yours :)

I just found it funny that someone else had heard of Atoms ... one of the problems we had was explaining how the hell to play it :)

It's a very good game for getting to grips with a new engine, though. Good work :)

Cheers Tom. I lost count of the amount of time I spent playing this against my brother. It was fiendishly addictive, especially because you were never really sure who was going to win. You could be down to your last square and still make a comeback. An underrated classic :->

@Matt: Cheers, I made judicious use of your tutorials along the way. Thanks for the help.

Martin, yes, my thoughts exactly. There's a lot of strategy to it. One of the things I liked about experimenting with different shape/size grids was how much it changed the strategy. Including the incredibly evil 2x2 grid in which is very, very difficult to win ;-)

Martin,

I get alot of satisfaction when I hear that T2D has inspired people to write code. Glad that T2D is serving you well. :)

Good Luck!
