Will,

I love the ambient sounds, my friend! I just listened to the sampler, but the .oggs may make their way into my current project, Unek. Drop me an email: syreal@syrealgames.com if you're interested.

Also, what's up with the "keys"? I'm not sure what you mean by this.

PS. Nice site design, its very stylish.

Kevin

Hey ya Kevin,

Thanks for the comments. Yeah a Key file is the actual saved settings used in Reason v3 by Propellerheads. You need Reason 3 or 4 to read the Key files used in making the actual OGG format from Wav files the program compiles out once the key filed is opened all from within the program. The key files basically, in a nutshell, are settings used on the different rack items in the program I put together to make the sounds from. Some of the sounds, like in pack 4 I believe it is, is made from FL Studio 6 and have since lost all the saved data from that from a earlier hard drive crash. But the pack was saved lucky for me.

To download reason goto http://www.propellerheads.se and check out Reason 4 there on the site. You can use the Demo to load the keys into the program to see how it was all made, you just won't be able to save anything. That is how I made the magic happen for the sound packs. Each package has its own set of key files used in Reason, and when you order for $100 or more, you get these key files to change the sounds around to how YOU want them. In the OGG formats you are limited to editing of the file itself, you can't alter the OGG much, but with the key files you can make completely new sounds and FX for your game. Thats why I saved them for only those who really need them to deep edit the sounds in the packs to trully customize their ambient sounds to how they really need them done.

I hope this helps explain what the key files are. The files in the Drum packs are free to download and play with. If you have any more questions please drop me a line. Thanks again,

Will

Ooo... Downloading... Some of these might make it into Solar Battles

It's a pity they're so short... It makes it unusable really. Looking at the Packs you have linked... The length of 1min to 2 min... is pretty short. I'm not a sound guru, so if you can explain how and where I would use it, I might buy the pack since I dont have sound yet for Solar Battles, I have someone doing the music tracks.

Will,

I got the extraction to go smoothly. I really liked the ambiance. Industrial City T2, City in the Dark, Spirit World, and From Beyond are my favorites. They will probably be used in Unek, and I'll let you know if they are. One of the themes of Unek is happiness vs. depression, and it seems like most all of your ambiance fits into the latter part of the theme. They are all really creepy, which will fit well into some of Unek's levels.

Thanks,
Kevin

Great work. This has inspired me back to the music keyboard.

Kevin,

Cool thanks for the comments. Sent you a mail about your game... if you or anyone who downloads the packs and uses it in your game(s), please email me your link to your site and game with a little on it. I'm going to add all games using these packs to a special links only page in the coming weeks so you can get noticed and I can get some exposure as well on the deal. I think it'll be a win win across the board. Hope everyone likes the pack(s). I try to stay with a darker space/alien kinda thing going on as if your on a ship in space way wayyyy out from anything or one. I've always liked the creepy route, just my style :P Thanks to all for the comments...

@ James: That's the way I made them so they fit into almost any project or FPS game. If they are too short, you can always donate to the project and get the complete key files for the Reason 3 and 4 engine to make your own sounds from the packs I've done here. That way you could make them longer for your project. If your wondering what a key file is see above, near the top. These keys are for those who want more customizing of the packs to build their own sounds off of or tweak the sounds to make them truly custom for project or game your working on. If you have any more questions fire away here or drop me an email dlstorminc@yahoo.com

BTW guys if anyone didn't know, my first pack is up here at GG under content packs... that one is a GG exclusive that I can't make free at this time but one day it too will become a free pack, but not right now. Its actually helping me get somewhat noticed for contract gigs and used in resumes, which is always a good thing.

Enjoy,

Will

@ James: How to use it is in your sounds section of the engine. You replace the sounds that are in the example game with these, or if your really lazy, just rename my sound pack sounds that you want to use with the names in the example game and you will have that sound in your game. Pretty easy really. If you need a complete step by step how to I can create one for you how to put it all together. Will take me a day or two but can do a pdf and post it on my site to get if you like, just let me know.

The sound packs were made for mainly outdoor levels, indoor warehouses, or just about anything you need ambient sound for. Remember, these packs are made for Ambient Sound Effects, not as music scores to a game. They basically put a level of mood in a area of the game where it needs it. In a nutshell, its like a music score in a movie just that mine is Ambient Sounds vs a music score. To build up worry in a player, and to help make them wonder what's coming next in the level.

The sound packs can be used for almost anything, including machine sounds, strange other worldly events or anything you can dream up depending upon the sound byte. I hope this helps some but yeah let me know if you need a breakdown of how to install it and I'll get you links or a pdf to help some more. TDN is a great starting point, just see the sound area for the engine your using... it should help a bit til I can get something together for all 3 engines.

@ James: BTW what engine are you using to make the game with? TGE 1.5.2? TGB? Slight changes between engines for the sound but not a whole lot changes between them, at least not enough to make it a major headache to switch between sound banks. I'll create a install guide on my site, for all 3 engines, in PDF coming shortly. So please watch for it. Besides I see its needed so those new to the engine and my packs will be able to install the sounds with ease. Let me know what engine your using and I'll mail you the PDF when it is done. Thanks

Will
