I still have some tweaks to do on this one, but I am quite content with the results; It's no real rainbow but might be good for some scenes; next, fake light shafts and other similar stuff; that, if i manage to complete the waterfall tonight : )

I wrote this to a friend and really explains this blog post:

See, I can't stand designs that have 'visual' flaws; ...; to see my point, check out my last blog - i want beautifull games (as in beautiful visually, not high-processing power ultra realistic stuff ala crysis); you know, stuff that might come right out of a nice tale of our childhood..

I suddenly want to sing songs about bluebirds. Very nice!

One will actually hear and see birds in the final release of this environment pack :)

BTW, this kind of visual composition is more than never well called "Art"

What a nice result you got there.

Is it color on a skybox? How did you do this rainbow?

Apparatus   (Jun 18, 2008 at 04:02 GMT)   Resource Rating: 5
@Adib - It's actually dynamic, it can slowly rise or get smaller with any speed (the slower the nicer), it blends nice with everything (except terrain w is ok); a simple texture and a light datablock with flare option ON. I'll probably have a pdf in the pack explaining all these waterfalls and rainbows and birds an shorelines and whatnot.

Truly great work there, the rainbow looks fantastic.

What are the alpha channel setting on the effect, if you don't mind?

Josh, there's nothing fantastic there but stock TGE (formerly TLK) code and that is the light datablock with flare (any light datablock has this option I think);

Just pick up a PNG texture, make sure you type in the full path to it (ie. starter.fps/data/~/rainbow.png) and play with size and everything; it really depends on what you want to achieve; The beauty of it is when you move around and as you go farther it grows and rises. I'll make a video as soon as the rest of the stuff is done.
