Microsoft has taken the BattleTech video game franchise in the direction of an action FPS. I plan to return it to the simulator from which it started.
I am assuming an understanding of the BattleTech universe.
BattleTech Simulator: 3025 (from my initial attempt in 3dRad) will be renamed just "BattleTech Simulator." It will start in the year 2750 and span to current time of 3060's. Since a game that size would be imposible to create in one shot, it will start with the range 2750 to 3025, a decline in technology. Each power will be a separate add-on as will steps in time (3025-3050, 3050-3055, etc.). Clan will be an option, but only through participation in the Exodus.
The primary focus is a single-player game, multi-player is a separate function with the possibility of tying the two together with Solaris VII. The game will be comprised of a multi-generational character (obvious given the time frame). The game will be a collection of Campaigns, divided into battles. Progress through the game will present options to the user allowing them to shape their destiny. All element of the game can be either scripted (pre-determined), randomly generated, or a combination of the two.

Rename it, create your own mecha designs, and create your own universe history (which could nevertheless have a similar flavor to the world you are a fan of). Just make sure those lawyers don't have a leg to stand on.
And I agree with you totally with Microsoft's Mech games. I found MW4 to be unplayable and no fun. MW3 was good, but didn't suck me in like the first two.

I may release the game to the public, but my primary purpose is to develop a game that I can integrate into a physical simulator (similar to the potential of MS Flight Simulator). The BattleTech universe is very complex and detailed and I plan on putting that into my game, a knock-off just won't do it for me.
