According to China's General Administration of Press and Publications (GAPP) digital publication vice director Kou Xiaowei, China's online game industry recorded a total of 6.54 billion Yuan in revenues in 2006, up 73.5 percent year-on-year, reports Sina. According to Kou, domestically developed online games generated 4.24 billion Yuan, accounting for 64.8 percent of total revenues. Domestically games exported overseas generated US$20 million in revenues in 2006. Casual online games generated 1.23 billion Yuan, accounting for 18.8 percent of the total revenues. China currently has 90 online game development companies, including 25 in Beijing and 20 in Shanghai. Online game development staff hit 13,908, increasing 11 percent year-on-year. Only eight new online game companies set up in 2006, compared to 24 in 2005, said Kou.

to do online game ( hosting ), your company need to have at least 10Million
chinese dollar ( $ 1.5 million ) in bank( to prove you have that much money )
to get license to do it.

If that is the case wouldn't that be an unfair representation of how strong their in country game production is since they more then likely prohibit many games created in other countries to even be played there?

in china. but if you make game, sell the game to mmo game hosting company, then
that is different, you may just need a software company license. And there are a
lot unfair stuffs going on in china, specially for small business. if you want to try
china market, you need learn how business works in there, i think its like 19
century wild west, you may get high profit and also high risk.
