And there it was, 2006

Having noticed that my last .plan was nearly 12 months ago, it suddenly dawned on me that the year 2006 has just flown by. Sadly within this past year things haven't gone to plan for me, and its fair to say 2006 has been one big roller coaster. From the highs of seeing my daughter making an appearance in this world, and gaining my first game industry job, to the bitter lows of breaking up with my long term girlfriend, and being layed off, to the somewhat somber situation I now find myself in.

Who said anything about fun...
From the game development point of view, it is with regret that the project I was heading up at fundemic, never even made it to milestone one, before the team decided to either leave or give up once the 'hard work' stage of the project arrived.
From the fall out of fundemic, I have since tried one three separate occasions to set up game development teams, and sat and watched each and every one fall to pieces.

Evaluateion I tell ya...
Having talked my feelings through with a trusted friend of mine, it is clear that the problem lies with myself. I have identified what my failings are, and now I have devised a plan to learn from these short comings. I guess you could say, today is the beginning of the rest of my life.

One small step for man...
In the immediate future, I have decided to either cancel or leave all my current game development ventures, to concentrate on doing what I came into this for. Have fun. I feel that it is high time to give up on trying to work with disorganized teams, and instead work towards filling my portfolio with high quality art, and to give some loving attention to a small in scope personal project that I have been thinking about for the last six months or so.
Another habbit I want to sustain through this next year is to post regualr .plans, so that I can chart my progress.

Look at it, ain't it beautiful...
On the up side I did finally design a logo for fundemic that I am truly happy with...

Nice clean logo - better than the one on the website.

This has to be one of the 'raw-est' .plans I've read. Even though I don't know you and the whole situation, I think refocusing your efforts is a wise decision. Well done on stepping back, analysing the situation, and acting to fix the problem. So many people can't do that.

Good luck with it and hang in there!

James-

Hope all turns out well for you. Thanks again for the comment about starting small (wisdom) about a month and a half ago when I first became a TGE owner. I've gotta an audio emitter going in a game prototype (wow). Merry Christmas.

Sounds like a good idea. On other hand- I believe many people had such episode in their career and it's a good thing- helps you to see things in right perspective for next years of your professional career. It's not most pleasant lesson but at least in my case it serves well.

Hey James

Nice to see another blog :P I agree too, it is a nice logo though, in case I hadn't mentioned it before.

James.. you dont need to rule out teams. Just remember that finding a good team to work with can be as hard as creating a good game. Expect to fail a lot but eventually you will strike paydirt.
