My original intent was to create a Battle Front semi-clone, but use insects (ants) as the main character. One of the unique characteristics was to be able to climb any surface like a real ant. I mocked it up very quickly and found out a basic flaw to this approach. Unless I do a heck of a lot of camera work people are going to be puking their guts out. I am a hardened FPS player and have been so for years, yet I found myself getting a bit disoriented. I have since played other FPS games with no ill effect.

So I decided to change my focus a bit. I am still going to work an a semi-clone of Battle Front. However it will not be a mindless copy. I am going to take the things I like out of the two titles BF and BF2 and create a sim/fps/bf (simulation/first person shooter/battle front) game. The sim comes from putting in mecha style vehicles, the fps comes from the fps of Torque, and the bf comes from battle front. Am I being anal or redundant?

My story...any good game needs a cool story. Mine is really cool so I am not going to tell you all of it. I am going to be vague. I have another person lined up to help, but I think most of it will be done by me. It goes this way:
1 Humans are at war with aliens and the war is coming to a close
2 You, the player, is a soldier that fights a few token battles and then is decomissioned with pay
3 You, the player (and maybe some NPC buddies), need work so you decide to... (there may be some choices either explicit or implicit)
4 Earth governments focus is no longer on aliens, but on conquest of new planets (gee is there any way to find work there?)
5 Underlying plots are everywhere (traitors, alien buildup, etc)
6 Multiplayer will be there, but not in any persistent way other than maybe sponsored ladder battles or some such (haven't really thought about that one)
7 One key feature: I hope to produce a battle randomization of worlds and battlefields so that you never play the same game twice. Think the original mechwarrior. Not 2 the first one that had CGA graphics, but had a 3d engine that ran in DOS. I still have it!
8 Cool technology that builds up as you go to an ultimate machine. Imagine being the first warrior to field an advanced weapon!
9 Fly in flying saucers, own huge flying cigars, conquer whole planets!

Well, that is enough for now. Remember as I learned from this experience: MOCKUP, MOCKUP, MOCKUP. Oops, before I forget remember to mockup your game early on.

Thanks,
Frank
