The Cush closes out 2004 without a bang, whimper, or desperate plea for cash...
Another year coming to a close. Time to look back, see what I did, what I didn't do, and reflect.
I survived another year in the job that I loathe, which sucks the very soul out of me (and I'm not even an EA employee), which would drive a lesser man to drink himself to death, and which I've no reasonable hope of leaving given the job market in Phoenix. Net Value: Bad
I managed to go the entire year without telling one of the endless head of human cattle, in language that cats and dogs can understand, exactly how little they truly know and why precisely they shouldn't be touching computers or network equipment. Net Value: Good
I've managed to do quite a bit of work on a couple of concepts that I've had stored up. True, it's really background type stuff, the "style" design docs if you will, nothing very technical, but it's a lot more than I had previously. Net Value: Good
I couldn't quite get my act together for "Make Something Unreal." Despite gruelling hours teaching myself, repeatedly, how to use UnrealEd, I couldn't get something put together that I'd feel proud entering, to say nothing of executing what seemed like a fairly simple vision. Net Value: Bad
I taught myself UnrealEd, a program previously arcane and unfathomable to me. Thanks, 3DBuzz! Net Value: Good
I finished a novel for NaNoWriMo, 50,000 words in 30 days, and while I may not have throngs of literary groupies flocking around me (yet), I do have something I can work with and hopefuly market. Net Value: Good
I am still alive and more or less well. Net Value: Good

Good job with the book. 50k words in a month is very impresive.
Maybe you could link to it, so we can see it?

My advise to you is to get out of that job... It's not worth it!

The whole book right now is undergoing the dreaded second draft rewrite. There's a lot of stuff I didn't really get a chance to put in the first draft. However, the link below leads to my NaNoWriMo profile, which has an excerpt from the first draft, the big climax.

@Burning
It's not for lack of trying. :)
