GarageGames, Inc. is now actively seeking art interns for Fall, Summer, and Spring! Interning at GarageGames is not only awesomely fun, it's a great way to get your foot in the door of the video game industry.

The video game industry is a rapidly growing field in need of talented individuals. We are currently seeking art interns with interest in game production art (modelling and texturing) as well as graphic design (web, print, and GUI), or any mixture of both.

The team at GarageGames will teach you the craft as practiced in the industry - you will be able to learn the particular way it's done here as well as all the possible ways to do it. Interning isn't glamorous, and it doesn't pay anything, but it's a great way to get the foot in the door, have some fun, and learn the ropes. Not only do you gain valuable experience in the working world, you will also make contacts in the industry who will come in handy when you are looking to secure permanent work.

Art interns at GarageGames are responsible for creating art within a variety of roles such as using 3-D modeling software, texturing, background design and animation. Interning also provides the opportunity to master development tools including Maya, 3ds max, Photoshop and many more. Basic art training is essential, 2-D animation and basic 3-D skills are a definite plus. Candidates will need to submit a portfolio/demo reel and a brief informal resume.

All interested parties should send submissions to interns.gg@gmail.com

At GarageGames, we like having interns around because they always have cool ideas, fresh perspectives, and lots of energy. It's fun to bring new people into the office, and we can always use help with all the projects we have going. GarageGames is a small and intimate company, so you can always gain help and experience from seasoned industry veterans while working on real projects, not just be the "coffee" guy.

Interns at GarageGames get free housing located in Downtown Eugene, OR in our brand new GG Apartment(includes free net connection, utilities). The apartment is located right by the University of Oregon, and the area is teeming with things to do, nightlife, food, and general entertainment venues. The GG office is about a 20 minute walk from the GG Apartment. Parking is available for interns who have their own transportation.

Interning at GarageGames is also the fastest way to employment here. In the past two years, we have hired nine interns which have come through our program!

Free housing, man that is one of the best things you could offer. I thought about doing the intern thing in my industry but there was no way I could survive working 40+ hours a week and not get paid.

I should mention, if you have applied for an internship in the last month, we still have your application. We are currently holding onto all applications until it comes time to pick the next run of internships. Thanks. :)

I have to get an internship for my junior year in highschool. It would be awesome if i could get it there, however I live in Manhatten so... that sucks.

Any New York City based game companies in need of an intern?

@GG: No fair, I want interns too!

Josh Williams   (Aug 30, 2005 at 23:38 GMT)
I'll piggy-back on Tim's email and note that GG is looking for web programming, game programming, and marketing interns as well. Slots open for fall, winter, spring and summer. If you're interested, please send a description of your previous experience, your interests and why you'd like to come intern in the garage to interns.gg@gmail.com

I get nervous whenever I hear the word intern. Why is that? There's a reason. I can't remember what it is. I'm trying, but all I can think is 'cigar'? Weird.

Seriously, this is COOL. Good luck everyone who applys. It doesn't get any cooler than this unless you get hired full time, I imagine. Lucky single bastards. :P Nah, I take being married over games anyday. Although, my wife IS addicted to EQ2. I wonder if she would notice if I was gone for a few months? :P

Oh man! I would so do this if I were a little older!

I just wanted to comment that a very large segment of our full time staff come from the intern program. There is of course massive hazing, extreme amounts of beer consumption requirements, and I won't even mention all the slaving over a hot stove that we require to make it through the intern program, but it's worth it!

just teasing about everything 'cept the first and last parts!

Nathan Snell   (Aug 31, 2005 at 03:17 GMT)
For the marketing intern... is that like, marketing a game, marketing GG (a business), or both?

Richard Van Stone   (Aug 31, 2005 at 17:25 GMT)
Well bleh....I wanted to do art for GG but I can't afford to go there as an intern. That stinks ;)

Joseph Euan   (Aug 31, 2005 at 20:54 GMT)
Nathan, everything... marketing games, products, getting things ready for events etc etc etc.

Interning at GG is a great way to learn about game dev and have fun at the same time!

@Nathan - Its mostly marketing dev tools still, but games and GG as a whole are all part of the mix. Web skills, writing skills, promotion skills, bow hunting skills all come in handy.

Nathan Snell   (Sep 02, 2005 at 05:30 GMT)
Sweet, I've got bow staff skills, nun-chuck skills, web skills... I'm almost there! :p

That sounds highly intruiging... I suppose, however, that if someone was only be able to make it for 2 months (due to college transfering) that that persons chances (not myself of course) would be pretty much vanquished (like some sort of uber vanquishing thing).

Attention all potential future art gurus!

If you are considering applying for an art internship with GarageGames, now is the time to apply! We are getting ready to process the first round of art internship applications next week early. Send in those applications soon if you want to be considered in this round. Thanks! :-)

Very cool, one of my teammates (and classmates) is going to submit an e-mail, she does some great GUI design work and fairly good at 3d modeling, lol means I need to package our final project game up tonight so she can send that in as an example (its using her awesome guis :)

Timothy Aste   (Sep 02, 2005 at 20:09 GMT)
Sounds good, we had some people drop out, so the more the merrier! We love seeing peoples work! Tell her to try to send me an email by monday!

Josh Williams   (Sep 04, 2005 at 03:35 GMT)
Nathan, I would tell that person to apply and provide some background info and/or any examples that might be available. :) We like to be able to work with someone for 3 months or so usually, but can sometimes make exceptions. Demonstration of nunchucku or bike jumping skills may be required in such cases, however.

Anton Bursch   (Sep 06, 2005 at 20:47 GMT)
Marketing Intern? Now that is something I am actually great at. How can I get more info on that intern position? I would like to find out if my skills, experience and personal magnatism(:P) might be right for the job.

Anton Bursch   (Sep 12, 2005 at 19:40 GMT)
@Timothy Aste

What are the dates of the Fall, Spring and Summer internships? And by Fall do you mean this Fall or next Fall?
