No use in beating the dead horse, GG rocking at GDC 06 in San Jose. I took a bunch of video clips in hopes to make a short montage video, but for some reason the compression codecs are chocking all my video apps. In the meantime, I have a handful of pictures from the trip that I'll throw up here. Our ride down was very Dirty Dozen like.

Also, some movies of the GDC Preview of the Legions TSE Tech demo are up at http://www.tribalwar.com
Head over there to see those movies.

Nice! GDC looks like fun.

EDIT: Saw the Legions videos. Thats really cool! Mind if I ask what you used for atlas? I use terragen but can't get the terrain looking that smooth.

Brian Ramage   (Apr 03, 2006 at 22:19 GMT)
Love that John Romero picture. Tim looks almost annoyed by John's presence.

Andy Hawkins   (Apr 03, 2006 at 22:20 GMT)
thanks for taking the snaps Tim. One day I will get across to the US for a GDC.

BTW - the Tribal War vids look awesome - I must buy TSE (where's that credit card...)

Btw, the Civil Disturbance guys were awesome. They were doing exactly what Jeff was talking about in his latest blog, sitting in the fishing area, getting anyone they could to play their game and trying to get their name out. It was really cool to see them doing that, being a Ghost Recon fan, I was impressed, and hope to see those guys in IGF next year (and hopefully IGC too!)

Tim, the pictures are O.K. Please change the font on all of the pictures so the older folks can read them more easily. Thanks.

Don't judge me eric

David \"Fulcrum\" Wyand   (Apr 03, 2006 at 23:26 GMT)
Whoa! When did Ben G. start going for that 'G.I. Joe with Kung Fu Grip' look?!?

Matt Huston   (Apr 03, 2006 at 23:35 GMT)

Man I wish I had been there!

Anton Bursch   (Apr 03, 2006 at 23:49 GMT)
Whoa, you guys met the Living Dead creator!! Cool!! I didn't know Romero was so young looking. I thought he was really old. Those hollywood types though. He probably got plastic surgery to look younger... and uh... prettier?

Thanks for the photos, Tim!! I'm glad you had fun!

Chris \"C2\" Byars   (Apr 04, 2006 at 00:10 GMT)
Those Legions movies are amazing. Damage screen flash, waypoint markers, motion blur; brilliant! :) Can't wait for this tech to be let loose to the EAs...

Timothy Aste   (Apr 04, 2006 at 00:11 GMT)
Hehe Anton, wrong Romero....

Josh Moore   (Apr 04, 2006 at 02:48 GMT)
Awesome stuff. Really can't wait to get this stuff in my in my hands. :D

A couple questions tho...

Are some of the interiors using smoothing groups? Because some of those curves just look better than most CSG stuff.
And, what type of shader are you using for the PSM 3.0 example cube? Relief mapping?

Timothy Aste   (Apr 04, 2006 at 03:27 GMT)
Josh:

Yes to both.

Clint S. Brewer   (Apr 04, 2006 at 03:42 GMT)

Bryan Stroebel   (Apr 04, 2006 at 03:48 GMT)
Tim

Truley drooly awesome. That tech demo has lots of great stuff that us EA'ers dont have. Will we get these features soon?

Anton Bursch   (Apr 04, 2006 at 06:07 GMT)

Just remember who was defending TSE when all the nay sayers where cryin' :)

Chris \"C2\" Byars   (Apr 04, 2006 at 13:09 GMT)
Still cryin' 'til we're actually able to use it :)

Alan Hembra   (Apr 04, 2006 at 19:48 GMT)
Romero... id soft-something... nope, don't ring a bell. Doom? Sidescoller right? Some kind of religious game? Wolfenstein? Had that 3D pacman level right?

Paul /*Wedge*/ DElia   (Apr 04, 2006 at 21:23 GMT)
Looks like Ben doesn't leave the office... much... ever.

Mark   (Apr 05, 2006 at 22:28 GMT)

I would like to see a higher res version of the Legions2 feature clip.

Some of the Text is hard to read.

Andy Hawkins   (Apr 10, 2006 at 00:12 GMT)
I agree about the low-qual video - it should be sharp when showing off great graphics like in Legions and TSE.

Ori Cohen   (Apr 10, 2006 at 19:45 GMT)
hey tim,

Well if it's gonna be able to run with the TSE SDK then I can wait for that. :)
