Starting back up with the particles.
Well, I've had a bit of a dry spell going latley with the particle pack I've previously mentioned. I had alot of big work suddenly flare up with my own game and was on a rush to get alot out by a certain deadline. I recently met that deadline and will be starting back up with the particles.
However to do this I need your help. Since the pack is for the publilc, I need your input. Espicially since im at a bit of artist's block right now. If anyone would like to see certain effects, tell me what they are in here. I would be very glad to hear them so i can try it out. And its perfered if ya post something big and flashy. The small stuff can wait, I wanna hit some really big effects like i've been doing so far.

And in a pervious plan I mentioned the inventory system i was working on. Thats still at a halt for now to make way for things higher on my priority list. School is comming to an end and I really need to pull my grades up for a good finish and thats really sucking up my energy. And I really want to get this particle pack out as many people could probably use it. And I still got my own game to work on and seeing how I don't need an inventory for it just yet, the inventory system can wait.

But anyhow, Lemme know if you got any good ideas for some particle effects! But since this is on the basic stock particle code, can't have special effects like swirls. Any imput is appreciated though! :D And i'll be sure to try to get to work really soon.

my advice would be to go to a site such as (http://www.3dgamers.com/screenshots/) and look at every screenshot for every game in alphabetical order, right-click/save the images with cool particle effects, then try to reproduce them or add your own unique flavor to them.

Suggestions:
Fire and explosion particle effects, wide range
Volcanic effects
Plasma and laser particle effects, like hot blue welding
Small tight sparkler effects
Environmental particle stuff (leaves, small debris)
Water effects: different splashes, underwater bubbles
Geysers and steam.
Smoke stack exhausts, from normal to toxic

I like the stuff from your last plan, very tight. Getting some realistic natural particle effects added in (like your rolling fire) will boost the market value as it seems most content packs are in the realistic venue, along with a lot of development in TGE vs. development of toon style games.

I know your pain with artist's block! I tend to jump between coding and art to keep the brain clear. Also, just stepping away from the computer and working on paper is very helpful.

BTW, I posted a diffuse bump shader using a specular bitmap in this thread, thought you might be interested as you have mentioned it a few times on the forums.

Heh, awesome thanks. I'll be sure to look around with those suggestions.
And ya, noticed the shader, havne't gotten a chance to work with it. Sounds great though, i'll look at it soon as i can :D

Nice work; I am excited about this.
Some particles I would like to see:

firelies - slow moving, sort of dancing/hovering yellow lights that could rise up out of the grass.

Electricity "Snapping" sparks - those sparks that pop randomly from the ends of exposed
electrical cables. Really bright white flashing, falling sparks.

Fire - the fast moving fire that occurs when you pour lighter fluid on the groud in a line and then light it - the fire zooms across the ground to the other end of the line. -- I have a weapon planned that, as a special bonus, shoots those out along the ground to strike enemies.

Maybe some rolling dust storms or even whirlwinds.

Icey spikes - could shoot up out of the ground and stab people

falling rocks

the sonic "rings" from that ray gun in SKycaptain, or that Aquaman shoots out when he calls his fishy buddies.

I like the ghostly faces particles you did - how about one with just ghostly, clawing hands..
