Well, tomarrow is the day for me. I ship off into the United States Navy, diving headfirst into my 8 weeks of Basic Training. I'm feeling somewhat tense, but it's beginning to fade into eagerness. It's a new big step for me in shaping my life into what I want and I can't wait to get started.

So yes, this is a major step for me as far as everything goes. I'll unfortunately be away from the GG community for a few months at least. Afterwards as I go through my training to work in the Navy's Nuclear Power Field, I'm sure I'll be able to stop in every so often and see whats going down. But yes, for now, I must depart. You've all been pretty cool around here and I can't wait to return and see what goodies wait for me!

Bye for now!

I do not know you. . . . . However I wish you the best of luck. Move on forward into life, and grasp it with both hands.

Take care.

Just remember one thing about joining the Navy tomorrow. You haven't joined until you get to boot camp. No matter what they say to you, if you change your mind, you don't have to go tomorrow. The military recruiters will flat out lie and threaten you that you are already 'in' the Navy and that you have to go now, you don't. I am just telling you in case you are one of those people who wanted to back out or be smart and go to college first and get a degree and then go in as an officer. They will lie to you and tell you that you are in the Navy, but you are absolutely not in until you have shipped off to boot camp. If at any moment before that you come to your senses and realise it's not for you, you don't have to go.

Anyway, if you do go, just be careful not to go barefoot ever. Trust me, you will regret it.

actually you have the first year to decide..

failure to adapt to military life..

but then would you want to know you were a failure?

anyways I am sure you will do fine.. yes dont go barefoot ever.. buy some flip flops..

and a wash cloth for goodness sakes.. :)

I was Army but same difference there.. I enjoyed the time.. just make it what you want it to be and you will have fun, if you let it make you then you wont have much fun..

good luck..

Flip flops are definitely a good idea (jellyfish!).

Best of luck to you and just blend in. Don't stick out for being good or bad. Just play the "grey" man and you'll get through fine.

You are part right, once you take the final oak to the flag there is no turn back. That why they ask you many times before it is this what you want. Good luck in summer camp. All military recruiters does not lie to you. Oh I went thru it, it is a piece cake but nuke program that a different story.

Good luck!

Good luck man. The only advice I can really give is make sure you don't grimmace when the drill instructor is shouting in your face and lops a chunk of spit out at you while he shouts. Then, when he asks you if you have a problem and you ask him if he has a tic tac, don't be surprised if you find out what pain really is....

I just saw this and even though the day has come and gone.

Good luck Shipmate!

I did 9 1/2 years in Uncle Sam's Canoe Club and I do not regret it. Well, except for that one shore leave in Pattya Beach... but I digress...
