Blog post
One year ago, nearly to the day, we released the inaugural version of AFX for TGE. Now, in a matter of days, we'll be releasing the long awaited version of AFX for TGEA. I originally projected two or three months for this project, but what can I say, I was very wrong!

As we tie up the final loose ends, prep the product pages, proofread the updated docs, and build the installers, here are some recent images to look at, all made with AFX 1.1 for TGEA 1.03.

Watch for the final release, in time for Christmas!

Will those who have already purchased the AFX pack - need to purchase it again for TGEA? Or will we get both versions?

Wow looking as stunning as ever, now I've either got to start saving up my pennies for TGEA, find a way to blackmail GG into giving me a free copy or write a letter to Santa!!!

I've got a question: will the deal regarding the MMOKit extend to TGEA and the TGEA version of AFX?

Trenton Shaffer   (Dec 14, 2007 at 00:54 GMT)   Resource Rating: 5
Nice screeshots Jeff. Outstanding work as always! Testing this has been a blast! It's going to make everyone's jaw drop when they get ahold of it. :)

re: questions about upgrades, crossgrades, and pricing

First off, AFX for TGEA is a separate product from AFX for TGE, and consistent with the fact that TGEA costs more than TGE, AFX for TGEA costs a little more than AFX for TGE. The price is discounted for current AFX users, but it's not a free upgrade.

However, the Spellpack1 expansion (included in ComboPack) supports both engines. This means that a user with AFX:ComboPack for TGE only needs to upgrade to AFX:CoreTech for TGEA to have everything.

This release also increases the version to AFX 1.1 which includes new features other than TGEA compatibility. Sometime in January, AFX for TGE will also be upgraded to AFX 1.1, and this will be a free upgrade to current users.

Here are the INDIE pricing details:
-- AFX:CoreTech TGEA: $85 (new license)
-- AFX:ComboPack TGEA: $110 (new license)
-- crossgrade from CoreTech-TGE to CoreTech-TGEA: $45
-- crossgrade from CoreTech-TGE to ComboPack-TGEA: $70
-- crossgrade from ComboPack-TGE to ComboPack-TGEA: $45

Novack   (Dec 14, 2007 at 03:12 GMT)
Awesome work Jeff!

Kind of adecuate desition about the licenses I think.

Eric Schuld   (Dec 14, 2007 at 03:23 GMT)
So if I understand this right:

If I own:
Faust Logic: AFX Core Tech + SpellPack1 (Indie)

That is the "ComboPack-TGE" and it would only cost me $45 to get the version for TGEA?

Jeff Faust   (Dec 14, 2007 at 03:28 GMT)
re: videos -- Haven't had time to capture videos yet, should get around to it soon. Hopefully they won't be too disappointing since, in my opinion, TGEA really shines at higher resolutions, higher than what I can currently capture in a video.

@ Ross Pawley -- I don't have a definitive answer regarding the MMOKIT, but I *think* the answer is yes.

@ Edward -- The only significant new spell is Chill Kill which is actually a preview of a spell that should eventually turn up in SpellPack2. It's not quite finished, but it's close. There is a novelty spell called Presto Change-Orc that switches between orc bodies, and two experimental spells demonstrating PhysicalZones for repelling and flying. All of these, except Presto Change-Orc, will be included with the AFX 1.1 TGE upgrade in January.

Jeff Faust   (Dec 14, 2007 at 03:34 GMT)
@ Eric Schuld -- That's correct, your cost to upgrade is $45. What I don't know, is if the purchasing system will automatically hook you up with AFX:ComboPack for TGEA or AFX:CoreTech for TGEA. In the second case, you would also have to download the updated version of SpellPack1 and install it.

Eric Schuld   (Dec 14, 2007 at 03:36 GMT)
Cool - thanks for the fast reply. :)

Look forward to seeing this for myself in TGEA! :) Fantastic work by the way!

Wonderful, what a great Christmas Present we will give ourselves. Did I see the Orc Mage throwing a rock/boulder? That would be great.

Husam Saoudi   (Dec 28, 2007 at 22:06 GMT)
"-- crossgrade from CoreTech-TGE to ComboPack-TGEA: $70"

Is there a promotion code for that or a buy now link?
Order system/Cart keeps saying AFX ComboPack-TGEA: $110

Great pics, and videos.

Cant wait to get my hands on it...

Jeff Faust   (Dec 28, 2007 at 22:30 GMT)
@ Husam Saoudi -- The auto-purchasing process in the GarageGames store is currently unable to check the duel prerequisites required by the AFX upgrade. (You need to own AFX for TGE *and* TGEA licenses to qualify.) As an interim solution, Derek and Eric at GG are doing the checks by hand and then issuing promo-codes. Follow these instructions from Derek, quoted from another thread.

Sorry for the inconvenience everyone, our website has an issue with dual dependencies but we still want to make upgrades possible for those of you with TGEA and the TGE version of the AFX kit. Unfortunately, there is no easy way of doing this at the moment so those of you who qualify for the upgrade and want to purchase it you can email either myself at derekb at garagegames.com or Eric at ericf at garagegames.com. Sorry again for all the hassle, we are currently looking into a more elegant solution.

Husam Saoudi   (Dec 30, 2007 at 07:35 GMT)
@Jeff -- Thanks, I got the promo code, and I'm downloading comboPack now :)

JoZ   (Jan 04, 2008 at 00:00 GMT)
@Jeff : hi there, great work! :)
My question is that: I need AFX for both TGE and TGEA and currently I don't own any version...
In order to have both version I need to buy TGE AFX and then upgrade to TGEA AFX or simply buying theTGEA version I'll get all I need for both engines?

Tnx,
JoZ.

Jeff Faust   (Jan 04, 2008 at 16:13 GMT)
@JoZ -- They are separate products so neither one automatically gives you the other. However, if you do the math, buying AFX for TGE then upgrading at a discount to AFX for TGEA costs you just about $10 more than buying AFX for TGEA by itself.

JoZ   (Jan 04, 2008 at 17:48 GMT)
Yes Jeff, in fact in the meanwhile I've yet bought bot, since the difference is so minimal :D
Tnx, I can't wait to try it tomorrow :)

Happy New Year ! :D
