Orbz mission editor
Coding away at the mission editor for Orbz 3. Here is a list of added features so far to whet your appetite:

(1) Can add any of the 10 orbz targets through the creator tree or the orbz shortcut menu.
(2) Can add starting platforms from the orbz shortcut menu.
(3) Colored squares in the menu bar for star targets.
(4) The 10 orbz targets and starting platforms will be placed in the proper SimGroup. If the SimGroup does not exist, it will be created.
(5) Display Course Data shows the following info: Number of star targets and powerups. Current fps.
(6) Lobby Screenshot will toggle the editor off, toggle the huds off, then take a screenshot and place it in the correct directory (fps/client/ui/orbz/courses). The name of the screenshot will be the same as the MissionInfo name field. The MissionInfo image
field will automatically be filled with the image target path and applied. After the screenshot, the editor will toggle on.
(7) Created newMission.mis & newMission.ter files. The mission has one texture and one starting pad.
The mission is read-only so no chance of accidental overwrite. Select File->New Mission.
(8) When the mission is saved, all the star targets are scanned to make sure the .targetPoints field is set. This ensures proper saving of star targets, because if a star is hit when editing, the
targetPoints field is erased.
(9) Have completed property dlg for star targets and magnet targets. Double click one of these objects in the world to bring up the dlg.

There are quite a few more features left to be added, but that is for another .plan. :)

Wow!!

That is so cool! It will certainly cut down on the editing time & eliminate so many problems newbie mappers have when they first start. You've thought of just about everything to make a mappers job in Orbz easier. Can't wait to get my hands on that editor.

Since you are at the editor, I've noticed that the camera speed doesn't work under Linux, but does under Windows. Any chance you could look at that one?

Keep the plans coming!

Neat! Makes a lot more things organized. Make sure to do changes on the powerups too. Great job!

Will check it out Keith.

I hope this is a stand alone app and not to be included in the game itself. It is great if Orbz fans that are totally into the game can d/l an application to make new levels and understand the complexity of the issue. However, having a level editor in the main game will cause support issues to go through the roof.

Jeff, that's a very good point. I actually like the idea of a stand-alone editor (probably mod) for a few reasons now that I think about it - and I'm all about reducing support issues.

Nice work Jason, these changes are long overdue - we should've implemented them long ago. Not only will the Orbz modding community appreciate your work but so will the Orbz level design team!

I hadn't considered the issue of support for a level editor. Hrm - something to consider for Trajectory Zone.

Not to sound like a bleedin' fanboy but... Orbz 3! Gimmie!!! :-)
