Blog post
This is going to be an odd blog, since it has absolutely nothing to do with game development.

So what, pray tell, will I be ranting about today?

Our IRC channel.

When I started going there, I would place a rough estimate that it was four to five times as large as it is today, and GarageGames devs, like Ben Garney (Galdor/Sado) and such were almost always there.

What ever happened?

Right now, as I speak, there is not a single GG dev in there of any kind, and there are 18 people in the channel, and far less active. There used to actually be meaningful discussions occuring there, and now there are none.

I miss the old days. Come on, let's bring the channel back to life!

Same thing with the forums. it's quite lonely. used to be difficult keeping up with the new posts. now, it's really easy.

Guess many move on or are too busy to talk.

And I would guess GG devs are too busy with all the things going on to be able to chat.
(also the fact they would be bombarded with questions they can't answer)

I have noticed this quitness too and imho it's because a lot of "multiplicator people" (those who's blogs you always read) left this community or are kind of bored of posting here because "all is said". Strange really, but I think this commmunity changed from the small energy-driven thing to a mass-phenomenon. Things change...

The slowness the forum is feeling right now is normal and is web wide. I have 10 forums I visit almost daily. Some are just plain dead, others are like this forum. Just slow. From watching the 2 active forums I run, they go thru cycles. Watch out when GG releases T2. This forum will start bouncing again.

Or it could be that GG itself is slowing down and users are realizing that all that Click and Create advertising is really not true and that even products like TGB require "miracles" to pull out a decent looking game....

I refuse to go there anymore. In my experience the only people I see speak just seem to troll, never offer any kind of help. Much like some of the less friendly forum posters. I have seen much more progress come from the people who frequent the MyDreamRPG irc. Come check us out!

Maybe people are getting better and dont have that many questions... :-P
Just thinking positive here, hehe... But you guys are right. Things have slowed down.

yeah.. positive thinking.. but I think not.. the GG community is slowing down and me thinks it is largely in part because the word is out that GG products are not as "drag and drop.. poof" and they first led on... there are a ton of new XNA engines in the works that promise the same thing (blade3D, visual3d, etc)... if one of them can deliver the goods, it might get even quieter around here... But at least it is sunny out today! See.. I can be positive too! :)
