Good luck with the project, sounds like a real challenge and a great learning experience! =)

Just gotta say, Torsion and Codeweaver are two amazing IDEs (not abandoned) to look at as benchmarks for your own work. I'm an avid Torsion user....I honestly don't think I can live without it now. IDEs are good!

I don't feel Torsion is abandoned... I pretty much think it is near release, look at the developer store.

Eclipse is an excellent platform and its version control is really good and would be a boon for any developer. If you are serious on this project you should consider real strengths and weaknesses based on an informed decision (or at least a properties table) instead of just going for your personal feelings. Take in count that you will be facing competition against Torsion which is an excellent IDE (but no version control).

I really hope you luck on this project!

Have you seen the TGE In-Game Script Editor? (btw, it also came packages as a resource) I think something like this has real potential, and I'm interested in seeing something like this (preferably officially) being resurrected.

As far as your own syntax hilighter, Alex Scarborough has already done a version of this for doing shaders in TGEA.

Cheers!

Personnaly, i'm using Eclipse with a own-made plugin to syntax highlight torque scripts. It is far from excellent but it helps me well. Moreover, i have added few plugins to play waw, mp3, ogg and display images inside eclipse so it fits all my needs.

I agree with Guimo regarding eclipse, it is really a very good ide and framework to develop new ide.
