GDS - Event more members and AGM

Fresher's Fair
So in the at at Fresher's Fair, we got over 103 signups to the society! That's over three time as many as last year. We have put up some pictures of the Fresher's Fair to show you a little bit more about it:

Annual General Meeting
We will be hosting our Annual General Meeting; where we will be revealing this years plans and showing you what we've achieved over the last year. We are taking names down for committee positions (Secretary, Treasurer. Art Coordinator, Design Coordinator, Programming Coordinator, Music Coordinator, Webmaster, Events Coordinator, Technical Coordinator, Women's Officer.)

The Agenda:
a) Chair’s report
b) Financial report
c) Constitutional Amendments
d) Elections
e) Last year: A review + Survey results.
f) 2005/2006
g) Community Game
h) Q&A
i) Any other business

Next Community Game
Our next major topic is the Community Game; we will be proposing various ideas to you, however, we also want to give you the chance to submit your own idea for development. It doesn’t need to be a full proof concept, but a 150 words description of the game and some dynamics will do. We will then ask you to explain your game in more detail at the AGM, and then vote. It might be that we work on smaller projects, so don't think because it's not an FPS or any big genre, we won't take it on.

Until Thursday,
That's all folks!

Toby.

Toby,
Where does the society meet at? Is it only in the UK?

This is only in the UK - We are based in Leeds, UK.

Rather than one community game maybe you'd have more success coordinating several smaller projects. Small teams working towards a small scoped game might be a little more productive than everyone trying to contribute bits and pieces to a much larger goal. Of course I've no evidance to back that up, just a gut feeling :)

Dont think of it as a large scope game with lots of people or several small scope games with smaller groups..

Just do a small scoped game with lots of people. Then you'll accomplish something quicker. And there is TONS to do, even on a small small game.

Chris has a good point... best to start small then build up, so doing a small scope game, then trying a larger, then a larger etc...

In the end this would probably be the best anyways since you will then have multiple games to show off as well as have the smaller games to motivate you through the larger ones.
