Blog post
I took advantage of a scheduled downtime at our ISP (Friday night) to install a new database server. So if you were trying to read the forums Friday night and could not attach to any GarageGames services you now know why.

The new server is a Dell PowerEdge 1850 with dual Xeon processors and a lot of RAM. The site seems noticeably faster to me, what do you think? Also upgraded from MySQL 4.1 to MySQL 5.0 in the process.

I have been doing work on a new site for indies that we plan to spin up in the not too distant future that will take full advantage of MySQL 5.0. Will go back through GarageGames.com over the summer and optimize some key components to take advantage of MySQL 5.0 as well.

It's a great time to be part of GarageGames, if you missed my last post about web developer openings here at GarageGames, you should go read it now and apply. We are about to move to new offices in June and the summers here in Oregon are spectacular!

Make Games and Have fun!

Hey Rick, not sure if this is linked with the updates you did but... a few of the older blogs I've tried to look at, don't have all the text on them

ie. when I look at www.garagegames.com/blogs/18010/10218 I don't see all the text in the blog post.
I got the same thing on my Laptop (using FireFox and Internet Explorer) and a friends PC (using Internet Explorer)

Not only does the site seem faster, its also a lot noisier :)

New offices? Where are you moving to?

Ahhh - that then explains the problems everyone has on the pages:

Most likely you switched on some character settings in mysql and/or forgot to do so

Heya Rick, good news :) Could you check the CVS server though, since nobody seems to be able to login for the last 2 days :(

@Stefan - CVS back up

@Jon - moving a few blocks towards downtown, will give us a lot more space to grow!

Thomas is correct, several resources are now missing snippets of code which were present earlier in the week. Also, it would be great if we could copy-and-paste code in Internet Explorer. The way the html is formatted there are no new line characters which means if you copy in IE, you have to manually edit each line with a return. If you switch to Firefox this problem is better, but sometimes firefox will show code as just a gray box (no text) which means you go back to IE and are faced with the cut-and-paste problem.
It would rock if someone could fix this. In all your pre statements, replace the <br> with a newline and the problem is solved. Long live GarageGames! Big fan of your engine.
