Xbox 360 gamepad for PC's ...
When I got my 360 I purposely picked up the wired controllers so that they could serve a dual purpose. To play games ... and to make games on the PC. I think that this will become essentially the standard issue gamepad. First of all there's nothing in my opinion that's more comfortable and since it's working on two platforms, developing a game for the PC first with the Xbox in mind for later has never been easier.
Just tonight I threw it into Tinker Blaster's Trip ... and my goodness it makes a world of difference! I've got that Geometry Wars style control nailed perfectly ... and it just feels beautiful! Of course I hope that's where comparisons end. I've been wanting to make a game like this for over a year now. I had a space ship game prototype ... with music even last year (a friend didn't believe that I actually created the music last year ... sheesh).
Of course I was trying not to make violent/shooter games still back them. Times have changed though. Now I'm putting some of my ideas about a game based on a 'machine' that you build (stemming from way back from the True-Vol days) into a typical shooter ... with some extras sprinkled on top to cater to the remix generation.
I've always liked modding cars etc... and I've always liked space shooters ... so call it Gran Turismo mates with Geometry Wars ... what the heck sprinkle on some Electroplankton too ... well from the looks of the E3 video anyway ... since I haven't actually played it.
Anyway, just had to come back again tonight and exclaim my love for the 360 pad ... implementing it has made my game about 10X better ... something about wielding those dual analog sticks is just really appealing. It's like your thumbs are tied directly to the smartest part of your brain and you just feel godly powerful at the healm.

windows drivers for the gamepad. Since you can buy 360 gamepads for PC, these might work too.

One of the big problems we ran into selling Zap on PC has been that people don't actually have dual analog controllers. (The other big problem has been that while the networking is Torque tech, none of the rest is... it'd be nice to be able to let people script their own GUIs and gametypes and such. ;)

Jeremy - I agree, dual stick is awesome for these style games. We did have to have a good feel to the mouse/keyboard interaction on the PC version as well tho.

I believe that was before the updates to the SDK and drivers, though. Not sure, but that is how I remember it.
