I know it doesn't look like much but this is my home simulation of the VR units that Leroy Baynum has. Those who've read my last few blogs know we've got Torque and now Aerial Antics working in VR with full head tracking. The next really exciting step of course is to take it to the next level and utilize the steroscopic functionality of the VR head unit. The above screen consists of two 80 X 60 camera viewports on a 640 X 480 display (YES, I should increase the resolution so I can get a shaper view of the game). Each view port represents a seperate camera render one from each eye on the character model. There's also a little routine that creates a focal point for both cameras which is extremely cool. Anyway, by pressing my head against the monitor I can test the stereoscopic view and it works great! It is like a full color version of the old Virtual Boy which I always thought was cool except the limited red color scheme.
For fun:
Set your monitor resolution to 640 X 480 and press your head against your monitor with one eye on each view port ;)

Remember the flying game on the N64 when it first released? I had a video projector playing the game on a huge wall. It was crazy! So much fun. There was something so cool about he immersion playing a flying game when you have part of the view in your side vision. From that day on I wanted a VR flying game so bad! I want to play a skiing game in vr though. That would be fun too. And of course, an FPS multiplayer game. Damn. that would be crazy as hell. you gotta hook up an fps for IGC too. :P
