Verizon DSL Blows Goats!!!
Whatever you do, don't think you can save money by going with Verizon DSL. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone who wishes to run a simple server. They have gone so far as to filter out HTTP packets at a level higher than my router. I check my DSL router logs and my machine doesn't even get hit.

I'm trying to run Apache 2.0, Subversion, and RealVNC. But they filter out everything incoming (or so it seems). Really pissed at their shitty service. Also, super pissed at the idiots lack of a good support staff...

Common bullshit line from a provider: "We're sorry, we're experiencing unusually high call volumes at this time. Please be patient. Average wait time for a support representative is... 120... minutes."

2 friggin hours!? The only reason they have this message there is because they can only afford to have 1 person on staff in your area. I waited for a good 30 minutes before I gave up. This after I got an update that my expected wait time was now "210 minutes". WTF?

I guess I was wrong to bitch about Comcast so much. Might just have to eat crow and get that service back. They never filtered my service, and the times I was down was about 1/1000th the amount of times I was down with DSL (in just the first friggin' week!!)

Avoid Verizon DSL at all costs!!!

Avoid Bresnan too, Bresnan bought out ATT in my area. The support's vocabulary is very small "please power cycle your modem" "Please Reboot your computer" "please unplug your router" "we're gonna have to send out a service representative". I mean i tell them my router isn't syncing with they're servers. "Please unplug your router and reboot your computer" Know what the prob was? Took me 3 minutes to find out, a bad coaxil cable ^_^. I'm elaving them soon, thnx God.

And Verizon thinks they'll be able to supply fiber-to-premises nationwide real soon now. Heh...

Verizon's end user stuff is completely incompetent here (Tampa Bay area) as well. Aside from not being able to troubleshoot simple DSL problems, they can't seem to keep track of their accounts or records of where their lines are and what they've done to them.

They're actually in the middle of a fiber rollout here, except their contractors keep hitting water and sewage lines on a regular basis, which is really getting people fired up (sewage all over your front yard does that.) I'm beginning to doubt the contractors could have that bad luck or be that clumsy. It's gotta be either poor planning/recordkeeping by the cities and/or Verizon.
