November, ugh, depressing.

November is the month where we brits traditionally celebrate the attempt by a man called Guy Fawkes to try and blow up our parliament buildings. Unfortunately he didnt succeed so we still have the same government, but you know whats really strange?

Last week we had loads of kids coming round to "trick or treat". This isnt exactly what you would expect in britain, but apprently its actually quite normal now.

So out with british tradition and in with american. Funny heh?

Of course this wouldnt happen in france, or canada, or almost anywhere else. But us brits love our old traditions being eroded away by commercialism.

So yeah, a little bit depressed. Not just because it hasnt stopped raining for the last month.

So Air Ace is now waiting for some more physics updates. Basically some of the stuff that was broken during the show. Its slow going at times because it squarely rests on Kristens shoulders, but thats just life in indie development.

The students have gotten on pretty well with thier respective tasks. The games they are doing for me are reasonably small and have at least one game to work off for inspiration. Of course thats kind of against the whole concept of innovation, but I'm happy to just let us produce some games right now. Even though I really dont want to be acting as a producer in my spare time, thats kind of how it has to be.

Its really just a matter of time. Time is the great enemy for all my indie efforts really. From getting too busy with real-life (tm) to getting too busy at work or whatever else.

So we are still grinding away at the games, making slow but steady progress towards shipping games. I've become less and less precious about the games themselves. Just get it MADE I think to myself. Thats what we should all have in the backs of our minds..

Get it made.
Ship it.
Learn what you can.
Move on.

Now this can obviously apply to a full game, a prototype, a function, a specific feature.

Game dev has always been about breaking big tasks into smaller tasks, then getting those smaller tasks completed. Slow grinding progress is the name of game dev.

So dont worry if things are slow, as long as they are slow at least you know they are still moving.

One thing that I'm looking for now, is a good place to host some subversion repositories for our various projects. I'm using a friends repo right now, but I'm sure he's getting tired of me asking to add new people and delete old people from the repo.

So if anyone has any good thoughts of where to get a subversion server hosted?

Hopefully with a repo available, I'll be able to hook up all the projects, including the full-on AI pack, which a few of us are finishing up for release asap. Been hanging on to that FAR too long.

So thats the plan right now, find some optimal method of hosting SVN repo's somewhere so I can get the projects together on there, in fact I might end up buying a dedicated server, but I dont know, if anyone has any recommendations for server hosts please let me know too.

So progress, albiet slow :) what other type is there?

Phil, I know one thing that makes November not depressing...the Xbox 360! Thats really cool about the AI pack though. I'd really like to see that.

Halloween is HUGE in here in Canada, and has been for since my grandfather was a boy - which puts it back to 1920's at least.

Here in the USA old traditions are being eroded away by commercialism. My god we hardly acknowledge Thnksgiving anymore. After Holloween all the stores start putting Christmas crap out already. It makes me loathed the holidays. The expense of it all is just getting out of control. My wife and I set up a Christmas club account that dumps into our checking in September for a little over $1000 US and that still isn't enough to cover everyone. That doesn't include exchanging between each other. Where are the Good old days of just exchanging gifts with your close relatives and going to parties to wish good health to your friends and co-workers.

BTW I'm so looking forward to the AI Pack. And remember Slow and Steady wins the race it just drives you crazy in the process. :)

If you can admin your own server, but want some backup, get a VPS with PowerVPS, they have a good rep, and I use them myself. We are both in the UK, so email me for my number if you want to have a chat about it. I have unfortunately been with my share of bad server providers, and you should look on webhostingtalk.com for user reviews etc.

My recent problems were with a company called Tektonic.net, very bad. Lost my servers, and the backups they were supposed to be taking, and the guy running it just hid from me. No reply to this day.

Cheers.

Silly brits complaining about IRISH traditions. Halloween isn't american, its irish.

Lore is as slow and grinding a process as you can get. Febuary would mark my 3rd year of work on the game. Sure, we released it, but it wasn't until March/April (maybe even May... its all blurry) that the non-early adopter release was finished. And we've been working on a patch. So nearly 3 full years of grind and pain.

hehe, I was telling everyone how people don't do the trick or treat thing in the UK. Only to find that recently they have been. Find it depressing too now you mention it. Funny thing is I have become a lot more patriotic since moving to California.
