Actually, it might be called Casual Connect now... erk..
amsterdam.casualconnect.org/index.html
Anyway, I'm hoping to get time off (for good behavior?) to get my sorry self to Casuality europe, in not-so-sunny Amsterdam sometime around 7th Feb. If anyone is attending and wants to meet up, let me know.
Why would I be going to Casuality I hear you ask? Its a very good question.
The answer is, that I dont want to be pidgeon-holded into any one specific type of game style. I've got designs for loads of different types of games and if some of them work for the casual market, then fine, why wouldnt I go and see what is out there?
It look like a really great conference, although I was reading the speaker bio's and it sent a shiver up my spine at the sheer volume of "sales and marketing director of X" items.. I guess its like being thrown in the crocodile pit.
Anyway, there's so much to learn about game making and design and business, it's kind of stupid to pass up the chance to go and expand ones perception of the games business isnt it? (actually, not so much of an expansion seeing as I've studied the casual games industry quite a lot, more an affirmation). There are many game ideas I have that I want to turn into games. Perhaps one of our biggest plans for this year is to look at finding (and funding) other developers to create games for us, so I could use some background on how other developers deal with this kind of thing.
Anyway, please let me know if you fancy a meet. I'm not confirmed yet, but I should be there. Of course this means I need to get some business cards printed, maybe I could get some unique and interesting ones made up... hmmmm....

People are gonna want online content 4 sure... but just something other than a sword and a timer. Some fresh things.
A lot of todays game don't measure player skill just endurance.. how long you can hold out before passing out or giving up. And a lot of people don't want to invest that much of there life into a grind?
So is that casual gaming? Or how they see it in that part of the world?
I like the idea of persistant worlds but in a casual context. For people that won't want to kill 10,000 boars with a button that turns on a timer and rolls some random numbers etc. I know Phil's air shooter is gonna be action oriented and less grind to get to the action or. A more even playing field. So you might go and take air ace to show off. :0
Or.. am I wrong and that's not gonna be casual game?

The casual games market likes to talk about Phil's favorite demographic a lot, perhaps that's who he's going to "connect" with >:)

I want to be able to take pride in whatever games I create, but not be tied to some single "genre" like its the only way to live. Of course there's something to be said for being the master of a particular style, but what about people who can master different styles too?
