I've been working with Jay Barnson on Void War character art, and it's been a rush to get it done in time for the pre-demo that's being released today. There has been some major interest in this demo, and while I've yet to play Void War, I must say it looks like it's shaping up to be one hell of a fun game.

Anyway, this is the style of character art you're going to see in the demo and later releases of Void War. Only a couple of examples of heads (they were supposed to be bust shots - you have to love miscommunication). I'll post the full body shots when I've completed all the characters.

After I've finished the Void War art, I think I'm going to take a break from concept and finished game art. Wrangling art for indie teams is a passion of mine, and gives me a released game to my credit, but it doesn't even pay a subsistence wage and I'm barely surviving as it is. I have several projects on the backburner that I've been itching to get at, but real life (and my own inability to say no) has always interfered. By the end of June I should be free of most commitments, enough to pursue a project wholeheartedly.

Yeah, sorry about that miscommunication, Paul.

I'd just like to interject that Paul has been AWESOME to work with, especially on such short notice. He very quickly zeroed in on the look of the characters based on brief descriptions.

I'll also add that there are several other very talented folks who offered to work on this project... the little "help wanted" board here at GG really does work :) I'm hoping I'll be able to beg them (and Paul) to work on future projects when we get to that point.

LOL Jay, you worry too much. Miscommunication is no-one's fault, it just happens. But thank you for the push.

I would be glad to work with you on future projects too. :)

Good stuff Paul!
Cigar guy is my fav ;) Sorta has a Duke Nukem feel to him :)

Yeah, the cigar guy is my favourite too. It's funny how everyone loves the nefarious bad guys; they always seem to be the memorable ones. I hadn't intended on a Duke Nukem influence, but I can see where you're coming from Dylan. This graphic style is something I've pioneered with Void War, I tend to draw more realistically and have darker skin tones, but working with markers limited my palette and it's turned out a treat.

Can't wait to get all the other characters out now, they're going to rock.
