I'm still tackling Torque, one day at a time, learning new things all the time. However, the lack of a simple beginner's guide irks me. I've been wanting to contribute to the community for some time, but as my C++, OpenGL, and DirectX stills are mediocre at best (and much worse, realistically), I don't think there's anything I could possibly add onto this engine, code-wise.
This is exactly why I've been considering the idea of writing an (almost) complete Getting Started with Torque tutorial. It would cover the things not covered elsewhere, and link to tutorials that already have been written by others. It'd also be tons less demanding than an actual game project, which (as we all know) is what usually screws up beginning indie developers.
If I ever finish this (hah! yeah right), things covered should include customizing weapons, particles (with the particle editor), and vehicles. Perhaps some other things on Milkshape modelling and Worldcraft mapping should also make it in.
Though I'm just a newbie myself, sharing what I've already learned could lead to a helpful resource I can refer to, and maybe even create something worth showing off.
So, we'll see what comes of my simple idea. If you have any other ideas on topics for me to add in addition to what I lightly brushed over before (*basic* stuff only at the moment, remember I'm writing this so I can learn myself =P) then please comment on this. Or don't.
