Toons Milestones and future plans.
Milestone #1 - Come up with a idea for a fun simple game for children. Needs to have limited violence and colorful scenery.

(completed)

Milestone #2 - Put together a working level. Make at least 1 usable item. Make 1 vehicle. Work on scoring code, game code related to coin pickup and inventory. Make rough draft of gui's. make sure server code works, and shows Toons specifically.

Milestone #3 - Get a working Demo finished.

(completed)

Milestone #4 - Work on Art and assets to start creating levels.
Needs - 16 coin sets for each of the 16 levels.
8 or 9 usable items to use against other players.. (trying not to call them weapons) like the ball launcher and the bubble shooter..
Add more sounds to item events.
Game code touch up. fix minor issues.
Make new gui's.

Milestone #5 - Create 16 levels with Coin layouts.

Milestone #6 - Create new gametypes. 1. Coin Capture (regular game play, collect set amount of coins to win) 2. Coin Attack (Timed coin collect, set time frame to collect as many coins as possible) 3. Team Coin Capture ( Coin capture with teams)

Milestone #7 - Create AI for Toons.
Needs to be able to find coins, while keeping other players from getting coins.

Milestone #8 - Finish Toons.
Finish Gui's fine tune vehicles, items, coins, levels.
Do a closed Beta of 2-3 levels and a handful of items.

Milestone #9 - Publish

Well thats about all I have so far.. I will add more as I go along, (should have done this first) But figured I needed a guide to help me get from point a to point b.. :)

I would also like to say a big thanks to BzztBomb who is helping me out alot with the coding. He has already fixed some things and is now a official part of the Toons team. He is helping out with what he can (he also is working on his own things) but its helping me out alot.. :)

I do have plans to sell Toons later on when its more polished and I noticed it has been ported to mac really well, other then some dts issues ( think its because of the compiling, may not be compatible with mac) But shoudl port fine.
also have a linux port ready when the game is done, so it wil be in Windows, linux and Macintosh for the final release.

So in that regard I plan to compensate those that give a noticable hand in the development of the game. I just want to get that out in the open.. :)

I am not going to go out and openly say hey I need a artist, modeler, so on.. but if Toons looks interesting come by Mirc and say hi.. :) PM me if your looking to help out.. I work during the early part of the day so may not be around, but I am usually in the room idling..

Anyways look forward to getting some of the milestones done before summer and get this thing wrapped up pre-Christmas.. :)

(hopefully) :)

The one thing that appears (possibly) missing from your milestones is enhancing the sounds. I'm not really talking about the code, but simply getting better, more "vibrant" sound effects for the various things that happen in the game, like picking up coins. That will be a very entertaining hook for "real" children, as well as keep the game fun for the "child at heart" market as well.

Also, possibly the alternate user input modes, but I'm not sure if you decided they weren't needed/appropriate or not.

Other than those, the kids love the game so far!

oops...
forgot about sounds.. I will be updating this alot in the future.. :)

I put in there redo gui's..

The ones in there now are the ones I was playing with.. It will probably not be the same in the final release.. I keep trying different ideas to see what looks visually appealing and also works well for simplistic design..

I will be adding sounds and effects, both visual and audible..
There are things in the works, but I am going to keep it hush hush til the right time.. :)

Great plan Tom. Let me know when you get a demo going. My kid is 4 and is hooked on the Marble Blast demo but can't get more then a couple of levels done.

What better beta tester for a kids game then a kid?

there is the first demo..

it only has one level and has some minor issuues, but is playable.. :)

it was for showing what the game is about..
