Ok I decided to do a preliminary release of the build so far..

The levels are pretty well fleshed out as far as layout but still need some extra goodness to fill them up..
There is only 15 levels so when you get thru the tunnels thats about it..

I included the editor button so if you wantt o play them in random order you can, its up to you.. the final version will have it removed.. :) I just found it easier to edit when I could just jump in any map.. :)

I lost the gui stuff I had done recently so I had to rebuild it from scratch so some of it is kind of off..
The key binds are wasd for moving and Q for opening doors. There are a few dangerous areas where you could lose your life but i havent gotten all of them in yet.. Like steam form pipes and some hot lava steam form the floors.. :)

anyways here is the linkage.. Toby Demo

Its around 74 mbs so if your not into this kind of game I wouldnt advise downloading it..
If you do I would love to hear any comments you may have on what I have so far..

I am sure some of the levels may look a bit darker on some moniters.. mine has some brightness to it and so I couldnt judge the best lighting, I will use my desktop for final lighting..

Some glitches remain and some areas you can get out of the main play area.. If you get out you probably wont be able to get back in.. so you will have to exit the mission to restart. There is no CTRL-K sorry..

I removed the console but not the logger (yet) so if you run into a bug or what not, you can post here if you want.. There may be a few missiong textures and files but shouldnt affect the gameplay at all

Well have fun and enjoy.. :)

did you try reading the books
?

Q the bookcases

Ramen-sama   (Jan 27, 2008 at 04:02 GMT)
didn't see a bookcase.
I thought the turtle was just insulting me by saying i needed to read books.

The level is dark as heck though. i'll see if i can find a bookcase.

This is looking much more polished than the last version i played! :) Anyway, I got stuck on the second level, too and I thought aswell that the turtle was trying to make fun of me. xD

I don't know how final this version is supposed to be but I got a few suggestions. :)

* Work on GUI stuff more, add screen transitions. Torque's GUI capabilities aren't that great so I would add in some TGB to create fancy GUIs and screen transitions. Or you could roll your own by adding some extra classes to the core engine.

* The second level has too much jumping already, for my tastes. It is probably because I'm a little motion sick and can't play 3D games for longer than half an hour but the jumping and the unsmooth camera movement got me to my limit very quickly. :)

* Make the sound effects more fancy / happy. Your game reminds me a lot of Mario 64. A lot of this game's athmosphere was created through cool cartoony sound effects. So I would put a little more energy in that area, your graphics are already plenty good, if a little dark as Ramen-sama has suggested.

* Maybe make the first few levels a bit brighter. Your first impression right now is that this is a very gloomy game and you already enter the big dark tower. For example... instead of having the tutorial level infront of the tower's door, you could show Toby's journey through a bright and friendly forest on a simple path to the forest, some jolly bunnies hopping through the bushes and birds chirping. He finds a few eggs here and there that probably got dropped on the way to the castle. Stuff like that. :)

I hope that helped a bit. I will playtest it some more when I stopped feeling sick. xD (again, not your fault... it took me two months to finish STALKER because of that.)

Thanks everyone.. :)

@Ramen-sama - Sorry the levels are so dark, my laptop has true brite setting so for me I cant tell if its bright or dark, so everything is bright for the most part, silly dell.. no offense Yadot.. :)

@Oliver - wow... hehehhe umm yeah the gui's are still in the works.. I lost them right before I released this so I had to rebuild everything form scratch so it doesnt look as good as before, like the AI gui's shouldnt have the green box outline.. going to fix it.. and I had some other things that I lost.. The dark issue I will solve before release by putting it on a desktop and fine tuning all the lighting on a better monitor.. The sounds will be last too.. If I can get them made that is..

I am reworkign the first level right now so it may not look the same :)
adding a more complex training area..

I will also look into the mouse movement issue and either hard code it at a slower speed or add a slider to control it.. I didnt notice as I have been playing it for the last 18 months and just didnt notice I guess..

Thanks again.. :)
