What seems to be a long time ago, in the basement of my first house, I started putting down some notes on a Sci-fi Universe that I wanted to build a MUD around (my calling back in those days).

Over the last 4 years MGT has not only been working on developing this universe as a electronic gaming universe, but also working on bringing the Universe to the traditional RPG channel. Well finally I am proud to say that the RPG team has brought together a solid core book for the Dark Horizons Universe Campaign setting.

Currently based on the D20 open gaming license, the core book brings my once 10 page outline to a new level of existence. I would like to thank the RPG project team lead by Brian Hammack and Ed Gardner for all the time and love they have put into this product.

Also special thanks to all the contributors, play testers and Artist whom have worked on this project over the last 4 years. Its truely taking our Dark Horizons IP to a new level.

The release date will be announced soon, starting with the electronically avialable download version, Print on Demand, and then the traditional retail channel. Look for annoucements in the next couple weeks...

NOTE: That is not the final cover, we still have some of the art editing to do on the covers.

For those of your wandering how this will affect the Lore series, just look at it this way, Lore takes place around 2160 on the Eart timeline, and the released RPG is set in the 2600's. This means we now have 500 years of history to make cool and exciting games with, more on that coming soon after GDC.

Cool Adrian, I've got D20 Corebook and Futurebooks. Don't play it but I find RPG books as good reading :) I am wondering how the D20 license applies to people using it in other mediums like using it in a PC game.

The D20 software question has been asked so may times that I forgot the answer! But it's easily found, probably here on the forums somewhere. Congrats on getting enough content to put together a book. I'm a big fun of d20 materials and respect the work it takes to get something finished. Congratulations!

Using D20 for games I don't beleive is something that was feasible (Its been awhile since we looked into that portion of the license)

We choose the D20 open gaming license for the simple fact that its what the majority of RPG pen/paper players are using (though yes there are many other good systems).

For upcoming PC projects though we will be using our own home grown system.

I will get Ed to post on this subject, he has been dealing with WOTC on interperting the licensing :)

Wizards has made it very clear they will not accept applications for video games using hte d20 License, they reserve that right exclusively for themselves and partners they select.

They gone to some lengths to clarify the license, I suggest folks look at http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=d20/welcome for more detailed information.

The kinds of software you CAN make are gaming aids, etc, pretty good FAQ at http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=d20/oglfaq/20040123i

While I applaud you on getting out an RPG. I feel that d20 has and is destroying the creativity and ingenuity that went in to creating a pen and paper rpg system that worked and actually improved the feel of what you were trying to get across. The task of creating new ideas and expanding the rpg genre has fallen to independents as usual.

But seriously Congrats on the game.

Congratulations, Adrian and MGT crew! Look forward to (eventually) seeing it in a gaming store near me! The owner of our local games store is a friend of mine, so I'll be sure to mention it to him once you get to the retail distribution stage.
