- Summary:
- I have worked primary as a creative professional since 1990. Why use creative professional over just saying artist; basically because I have worn many hats associated with art. Over the years if it paid more and I could do the job, I did it.
I have worked early on as an 2D animator, cell animation mostly and also over the years did side freelance flash game animation. Over the last few years That has included 3D modeling but I personal feel more comfortable with 2D art. (3D art seems like cheating to me, I prefer to draw it out. )
I also had work two years in marketing only to leave so I could be more hands on making art. I also worked in professional advertising photography when every thing went digital back in the early to mid stages. I was labeled as a photographer but in todays world they would have called me a retouch artist, that also worked on camera.
2002 I began a job designing application (software) layout design for user interfaces. At the time it was in my best interest to learn as much basic programming or what is more top level scripting. I had some knowledge of this from a second degree in school for CNC programming back in the late 80s but It not the same to transferring blueprints to cnc readable form, that was all x,y,z programming in a nutshell.
In 2004 I was cut due to budget cuts, I liked the whole programming thing so I went back to school. During the same time needing cash for enrollment I hooked up with two independent game developers that used blitz max (not as cool as TGB, but it worked) And started doing some 2D art for there games.
I got my degree in the fall of 2005 and hooked up with a very small shareware developer, making shareware. They give me freedom to do kind of what I want, so I spend my extra time this year (2006) making a few games on my own. Also developing an game art program (which I started working on in 2003)
I spent most of the year using arcade engine, py game and blitz max before deciding on finally moving to Torque (TGB) The move to this tool (TGB) has been pretty cool in the short time I have used it. Still learning the ins and outs, but we all start somewhere.
I still do side work (freelance) with 2D art and have been playing around with motion art.
The only plan I have now in this era of my life is to have fun.
